Hi there! I’m Chera. I’m a registered dietitian, mother of four, and restrictive eater turned lover of all food. I teach people, like you, how to develop a healthy relationship with food, mind, and body by uncovering the myths about food and weight that are holding you back from the life you deserve, guiding you through a step by step process to re-aquaint you with the internal wisdom of your body, and providing onlind nutritional counseling services.
My definition of health has changed drastically over the years. There was a time when I defined health as:
Being thin
Avoiding high fat food
Exercising daily, through sickness and health
Rigidly counting my calorie intake
Feeling hungry
My quest for health created preoccupation with food and body image. The vast majority of my days were spent fantasizing about my next mean and how I would look in my new, thinner body. Sound familiar?
I eventually started to experiment with food and I learned that eating one donut wouldn’t cause instant weight gain. I learned that as I let myself satisfy my hunger and cravings, food thoughts no longer preoccupied my mind. Life experience taught me that rigid diet rules had done a lot more harm than good. This knowledge opened a door to a new education based on principles of intuitive eating.
Several years later I had my first baby. I was comfortable with my body before I got pregnant. I had been the same size for years. When my body didn’t go back to my pre-pregnancy weight, I found myself fixating on my physical appearance. I found support in a paradigm that embraces all shapes and sizes. I gained the tools need to accept, appreciate, and love my body, regardless of its size. This took work and it still takes work. We live in a society that worships thinness and it takes intentional effort to go against the grain. IT IS SO WORTH IT! I have found food and body freedom. Food is now a source of joy, satisfaction, and fun in my life. I’m grateful for a body that allows me to live, love, learn, and raise my children. All the energy I used to manipulate my body now goes to those things that I value most; family, friends, work, and service. If my story resonates with you, I’d love to help you on your journey toward food peace and body image healing.
